Job description

Direct message the job poster from AdmissionPrep

Let me ask you a question: Do you love inspiring the next-generation of leaders?

That’s good. Because the world needs you.

Really? The world?

The media often says that this next generation is going to ruin everything. They think the next generation of students are lazy, entitled, and lack ambition.

We don’t believe that here.

When we talk to students, we’re always impressed by their ambition, their desire to give back, and their desire to succeed. Their definition of success isn’t just about achievement. It’s also about impact.

We believe that these students are our future stars. They will be the leaders of the next-generation.

Unfortunately, the system is letting these future stars down - but its not their fault. It’s hard for teachers, counsellors, and parents to keep up with these students - especially when they’re under resourced, and they have challenging students to deal with.

That’s where we come in. Our team of advisors pairs education consulting with personal development to develop the next generation of leaders.

We do time critical things…like helping to organize deadlines, create workback plans, and reminding students to submit things on time. We make sure students know about about their pre-requisites and explore all their education options. But more importantly, we develop their skills. We ensure they have the ability to make an impact, stay organized, and grow in the future.

We’re not just here to help students get into a school. We’re here to create a bigger future.

So here’s where you come in. We’re looking for advisors who:

  • Love inspiring the next-generation.
  • Are believers in the benefits of higher education.
  • Have experience with the admission process (admissions officer, admissions advisor, Masters or PhD) AND coaching/personal development.
  • You’ve achieved impressive milestones in your own life and career. Our students look up to you and your resume of achievements.
  • LOVE talking to students.
  • Love working! I know that sounds silly - but to do well here, you’ve gotta love being busy. This is not a job for people who have mouse jigglers.
What We’re Looking for…

Let me ask you a question: Do you love inspiring the next-generation of leaders?

Who are we?

We’re AdmissionPrep. We believe in youth leadership. We believe in creating a win-win-win ecosystem - where tomorrow’s leaders develop their skills by creating a positive impact in their community today. We believe that these students will be recognized for that with acceptance to top programs and scholarships & awards.

Our leadership team has been in the education consulting space for the last 7 years. And we’ve just launched our latest brand: AdmissionPrep. And now, we’re looking for believers in our mission to join us.

(Yes? That’s you? Ok, you can put your hand down now…I’ve still got more to tell you)

What will you actually do?

Your day starts with preparation for each student. You review their progress and their notes on our tech platform.

Then you take calls with each student. They are usually 30 minutes long. You take 4-5 in a row, then you have a space to do follow up tasks. Then you do another 4-5 in a row. From time to time, you get cancellations or reschedules.

You’ll take between 12-14 calls per day.

You are responsible for:

  • Ensuring students feel empowered about their future. Set goals with them. Then be a catalyst for their achievement.
  • Ensuring students are aware of all of their options. Open their eyes to new possibility. Create autonomy in their choice.
  • Focussing students on specific upcoming deadlines - and helping them to plan their work to meet them.
  • Simplifying work and decisions for students and parents.
  • Knowing the ins and outs of the admissions process for the top programs in Canada and the US. A baseline level of familiarity is needed. Then we have an extensive knowledge bank and training material to help you master this. You are responsible for being a master of this.
How does compensation work?
  • You are paid per call with each student. There are bonuses from time to time aligned with helping students achieve their goals.
How flexible is this work?
  • This is a remote role. If you’re in Vancouver, you’re welcome to join us in our office if you’d like. We’re at Burrard and Broadway.
  • This role can be scaled up or down. BUT the important thing is your commitment to your students. When you commit to the role, you’re really committing to the students you’re working with - and seeing them achieve their goals. We want advisors who want to see their students succeed. In short, we’re flexible so long as you’re a missionary for the student. Not a mercenary looking for a job.
  • Do: Commit to us if you’re comfortable working with a student for at least one year.
  • Don’t: Commit to the role if you plan on leaving your students within less than one year.
  • If you can make this commitment to your students, we can commit to being flexible with you.

Why we need you to apply

I said it. We need believers. We need people who believe in the transformative power of post-secondary education. We need people who believe in this next generation. We need people who are so light up by working with students that they sing about it in the shower. Ok, maybe the singing is optional - but the other two aren’t.

So if this is you, and this role speaks to you, please apply now.

    Overall Responsibilities…
    • Conduct 1-1 Zoom sessions or calls with our students to support them through their journey.
    • Utilize internal documents and knowledge base to support students in planning for their post-secondary journey.
    • Talk to students who registered for our platform, show them our app's features, answer their questions, and plan for their success!
    • Respond to student questions via email and text message.
    • Work closely with the Student Success and Enrollment teams to ensure a positive student experience.
    • Work closely with the team to ensure our students are set up for success on the platform.
    • Nurture students to educate them on their opportunities.
    • Use internal tools to track activity and outcomes.
    • Learn the ins and outs of the education system, scholarships, and jobs to educate students as you interact with them.
    • Stay up to date on our rapid product advancements to communicate opportunities to students.
