Job summary

Northern College is seeking an Accessibility Student Advisor to provide advisement and direct services for Accessibility Services and Advising. This front-line role reports to the Timmins Campus Manager and works as part of a college-wide team to support students with disabilities.

The role requires a two-year diploma in a relevant field, an Applied Learning Disability Studies certificate, and at least three years of experience.

Qualifications

• Two-year Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Occupational Therapy, Disability Studies or related field.
• Applied Learning Disability Studies Certificate or related Ontario College Graduate Certificate.
• Three years of experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
• Experience in educational advising, group facilitation, and providing guidance to diverse groups with inclusivity and respect.
• Knowledge of BWD and CSG-PDSE guidelines and processes.

Responsibilities

• Identify needs and provide ongoing advice and support to all students and prospective students.
• Provide intake and assessment of needs; arrange educational assessment services as needed.
• Coordinate services such as assistive technology training and academic accommodations.
• Research new methods and learning strategies to support students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with external agencies and health professionals on local and provincial scales.
• Guide students through the full lifecycle and assess reports regarding conduct concerns.
