Job summary

Telecon is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician in Kingston, Ontario. You will install structured cabling (CAT5e/6, fiber), terminate and test, while maintaining strong customer relations in commercial and industrial settings. Shift potential includes occasional afternoon hours; valid Ontario G license required.

The role offers day shifts with occasional later hours and provides benefits aligned with Telecon’s policies. Training is provided, and safety is a priority.

Qualifications

  • Ontario G driver’s license with clean abstract.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and customer-facing experience.
  • Attention to detail and reliable work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations an asset.
  • Pre-employment background check may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Install structured cabling including CAT5e/6 and fiber per diagrams.
  • Label cables according to defined standards.
  • Test installations and perform corrections as needed.
  • Maintain strong customer relations through daily contact with clients.
  • Install new services, outlets and equipment in industrial/commercial buildings.
  • Assist senior/lead technicians on service calls.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies and company guidelines.

Job description

The Structured Cabling Technician is responsible of wiring fiber, coax, copper, CAT 5 and CAT 6 cable into commercial and/or institutional building for different type of services. Part of the role is to complete the termination and connectors, and will conduct testing of cable.

This is a primarily a day shift position (8:00 am to 5:00 pm), however there will also be a requirement to work afternoon shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm on occasion.

The expected wage for this position is in the range of $22.00 - $27.00 per hour based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.

YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
  • Installation of structured cabling (CAT 5E, CAT 6 and others) and optical fiber according to the requirements (diagrams) infrastructure, plan and estimate time, quality etc. provided for in the contract)
  • Label cables according to defined standards
  • Perform the necessary tests after installation and makes the necessary corrections
  • Maintain strong customer relations through daily contact with customers
  • Install new services, extra outlets and equipment in Industrial and Commercial buildings
  • Assist senior and lead technicians in daily service calls
  • Learn and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety regulations, both legislatively mandated, and as outlined in company policy;
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract
  • Construction Labourer, Cabling and/or installation experience is an asset
  • The ability to read drawings is an asset
  • Knowledge of Belden, Panduit and Corning design products an asset
  • Professional, trustworthy, and reliable with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency
  • Ability to organize work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently
  • Working at Heights and Fall Arrest Certification is an asset
  • Selected Candidate must be willing to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check to the company's satisfaction
