Job summary

RRC is seeking a Structural Designer II to support diverse energy projects from our Calgary, AB or Toronto, ON offices, with remote work optional. You will perform structural analyses for foundations, poles, and walls while coordinating with drafting and engineering teams to deliver constructible designs.

The role requires 2–4 years of experience, a Civil/Structural B.S. degree, and proficiency in STAAD Pro plus several CAD/analysis tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–4 years of structural engineering consulting and design experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in STAAD Pro; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, LPILE, MFAD, RISA, MathCAD, PLS-CADD, TOWER, and POLE preferred.
  • Experience supporting permitting, engineering design, and construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for a wide range of foundation systems.
  • Analyze and design pole and support structures using various materials.
  • Review geotechnical data and modeling results to support analyses.
  • Coordinate with Drafting Group to develop accurate construction drawings.
  • Plan and manage structural scope, scheduling and deliverables.
  • Interface with clients to clarify requirements and provide value engineering.

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of the evolving energy production landscape.RRC CORE VALUESMust understand and personify RRC’s core values:Client Satisfaction – understands the goal of always exceeding our client’s expectationsEmployee Happiness – able to work well with others, communicate clearly with coworkers, promote a positive work environment, and mediate conflicts between team membersQuality Work - able to take ownership, work independently, prioritize workload, and deliver quality results on time while working on multiple projects simultaneouslyAbove and Beyond - versatile, flexible, able to anticipate the needs of the company, take the initiative, and willing to go out of your way to assist othersESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform structural analysis and design for a wide range of foundation systems, including direct embed, drilled piers, spread footings, piles, caissonsAnalyze and design pole and support structures constructed of wood, tubular steel, lattice steel, precast concrete, fiber-reinforced materials, and laminated woodDesign retaining wall systems, including soldier pile walls, rock anchors, and grouting solutionsReview and interpret geotechnical reports, survey data, mapping, and materials testing results to support engineering analyses using industry-standard modeling softwareCoordinate with the Drafting Group to develop accurate and constructible design drawings using CAD toolsPlan, define, and manage structural scope of work, including task definition, scheduling, and on-time delivery of project deliverablesInterface directly with clients to clarify project requirements and provide value engineering solutionsCollaborate closely with Project Managers and Civil, Substation, and Transmission engineering teams to ensure successful project executionMaintain responsiveness to client needs and evolving project requirementsEvaluate environmental impacts and project-related risks associated with structural designsDeliver optimized structural engineering designs in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practicesEnsure designs meet project specifications, regulatory requirements, and health and safety standardsPrepare construction specifications and material specificationsDevelop bills of materials (BOMs)Establish, implement, and adhere to QA/QC proceduresManage multiple concurrent projects, including day-to-day execution and coordination of assigned workMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)Minimum of 2-4 years of structural engineering consulting and design experienceBachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringProficiency in STAAD Pro required; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, LPILE, MFAD, RISA, MathCAD, PLS-CADD, TOWER, and POLE preferredExperience supporting permitting, engineering design, and construction activitiesSubstation engineering consulting experience preferredProficient in the Microsoft Office SuiteStrong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with a demonstrated focus on client serviceSelf-motivated professional capable of exercising independent judgmentProven ability to manage multiple tasks and rapidly adapt to shifting prioritiesWorking knowledge of applicable design codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE, AISC/ANSI, ACI, ASTM, NESC, and IEEEBENEFITSRRC is committed to investing in talented employees because we recognize that healthy, happy employees provide the best path to sustaining a successful business.
