Job summary

Morskate Manufacturing in Ponoka, Alberta is seeking a Structural Steel Painter to prepare, prime, and coat fabricated steel products using dip and spray methods. You will maintain equipment, ensure proper labeling, and uphold safety standards in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities include managing paint supplies, operating spray equipment, reading drawings, applying coatings, and ensuring high-quality finishes.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in industrial or structural steel painting.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production shop.
  • Familiar with outdoor steel coatings (Epoxy, Acrylic, Polyurethane).

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and maintain levels of paint supply and related consumables.
  • Operate and maintain paint equipment (sprayers, nozzles, paint booth).
  • Prepare and store paint products.
  • Order paint and stock materials with correct paint codes.
  • Follow work instructions and material priority statuses.
  • Interpret drawings to verify finish.
  • Apply primer using dip and spray methods.
  • Label dipped/ sprayed material for transfer after dry.
  • Ensure finish quality meets customer requirements.
  • Safely operate overhead crane for material movement.

Position Summary

Reporting to the shop supervisor, you will be responsible for preparing, priming, and coating fabricated steel products using dip and spray methods. The role includes maintaining equipment, ensuring proper product labeling, and upholding our quality and safety standards at all times. Responsibilities
  • Calculate and maintain levels of paint supply and related consumables
  • Operate and maintain paint related equipment and tools effectively i.e. sprayers, nozzles, paint booth, etc.
  • Storage and preparation of paint products
  • Order paint & relevant stock material (Ensure proper paint codes are being used)
  • Receive and follow work instructions and material priority status
  • Interpret drawings and sketches to determine and verify product finish
  • Application of primer to finished steel product using dip and spray methods as required
  • Apply proper labelling of dipped and sprayed material for label transfer once dry in preparation for shipping
  • Ensure quality of finish on primed material to meet customer requirements
  • Safe operation of overhead crane for material movement
Requirements/Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial or structural steel painting
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high energy production shop.
  • Must be familiar with outdoor steel coatings and their applications (Epoxy, Acrylic & Polyurethane).
  • Maintain dip tank levels and pit levels within tank.
  • Take and record paint coating thickness readings.
  • Ability to apply primer and finish coatings using spray equipment according to job specifications.
  • Ensure high-quality finish work with smooth, even coverage and attention to detail - capable of producing coatings that meet both visual and durability standards.
  • Must have good time management skills
  • Knowledge of materials and basic understanding of metals.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and proper steps for mixing and clean up
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs. and be on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English clearly

  • Follow safety protocol including wearing of required PPE and understanding and application of safety policies, procedures and practices

We offer competitive starting wages beginning at $24.00-$38.00 per hour, with final rates determined by your experience, skill level, and how well you align with the role. We appreciate dedication and commitment, and we conduct thorough performance reviews after three months and annually to acknowledge outstanding work and support employee growth.
