Job summary

MTE Consultants in Kitchener is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Building Structures Division. You will develop detailed structural designs for institutional, commercial and industrial building projects and perform calculations to move concepts into construction.

The role requires a P.Eng., a Civil Engineering degree, and at least five years in consulting, with proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit. You will collaborate with project managers and clients to deliver safe, code-compliant

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a consulting environment.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and building permit processes.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed structural designs for institutional, commercial and industrial building structures.
  • Perform engineering calculations and designs to move concepts to construction.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager, clients and consultants to ensure design fit.
  • Work with 3D structural modeling software for multistory buildings; know Part 4 Loading per OBC/NBC.
  • Perform design for precast and pre-stressed concrete projects.
  • Review precast erection and production drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed structural designs for a variety of structural engineering projects including institutional, commercial and industrial building structures
  • Perform engineering calculations and designs based on engineering principles and technical skill, experience, innovation, and engineering judgment, to transform project scope from concept design to construction, meeting applicable regulatory codes and standards
  • Evaluate project information to identify possible design solutions, coordinate and communicate with the Project Manager, clients and consultants to ensure design will work within the overall scope of the project
  • Well versed and experienced in the use of 3D structural modeling software programs for multistory residential buildings. Strong knowledge of Part 4 Loading requirements as specified in OBC and NBC
  • Perform engineering calculations and design for precast and pre-stressed concrete projects
  • Design and review of precast concrete erection and production drawings
  • Other related duties, as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within the consulting industry
  • Understanding of building structural design, the Ontario Building Code, the building permit processes, and applicable regulations, standards and legislation related to structural engineering projects
  • Understanding of structural analysis and design software, Auto CAD and Revit software
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with technical report writing
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Strong initiative and self-discipline
  • Required to have access to a vehicle and a valid ‘G’ driver’s license for travel to project sites. Mileage will be reimbursed for work related travel

Salary Range

$75,000 – $120,000 per year base salary, plus benefits

Annual Salary will be based on individual education, qualifications, and relevant work experience.
