Job Responsibilities & Requirements

A full-time permanent position is available for a structural engineer to join our team. The successful applicant will work alongside an industry-leading team of experts providing highly specialized design and product solutions for the light-framed wood & cold-formed steel construction industries. The position is based in either our Bradford, Ontario, or Calgary, Alberta offices.

We seek a candidate with a well-rounded background in structural design, experience designing wood or steel structures, and a good foundational understanding of structural framing practices related to residential and light commercial construction.

The design engineer will be involved in the design, analysis, and detailing of structural building systems such as wood roof/floor truss components, engineered wood products, and cold-formed steel building components for projects ranging from residential buildings to large, complex commercial and agricultural structures. This role is ideal for candidates interested in working within a software technology ecosystem that combines structural engineering design with building information modeling (BIM) software technologies.

Knowledge, Credentials, and Experience

• Must be a registered professional Engineer in good standing (P.Eng designation) licensed to practice engineering in at least one Canadian province.
• Minimum five years of experience in the building construction industry, light-frame wood truss industry, steel design industry, or engineered wood product (EWP) industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of structural framing practices related to wood construction.
• Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and regional provincial codes.
• Expert-level software skills, especially with MS Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written. Bilingual fluency in English and French is a plus.
• Working knowledge of Cold-Form Steel design codes and practices is an asset.
• Ability to interact with stakeholders of varying technical knowledge.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and contribute to a highly skilled technical team.
