Job Title: Civil Engineer

Primetals Technologies, a worldwide leading engineering and manufacturer of capital equipment for the steel making industry, is hiring for a Civil Engineer.

Location: Sutton, MA

Required Travel: 0-5%

Required Education: BS/BA in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline, or an advanced degree, or equivalent experience.

Position Overview

The Civil/Structural Engineer will perform civil and structural design of foundations and steel structures supporting equipment in ferrous and non-ferrous rolling mills. The work involves collaboration with plant engineering, electrical, mechanical, and fluids engineers at the Sutton, MA office.

Responsibilities

1. Create plant layouts, foundation bolt plans, and civil structure design sections for detailed engineering.
2. Calculate live and dead loads on concrete and steel structures related to mechanical machines and electrical systems.
3. Design and analyze civil/structural components using metric units.
4. Coordinate with installation services to understand project requirements.
5. Manage multiple projects within scheduled timeframes.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of experience in civil/structural design, preferably in an industrial setting.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D (AutoCAD Mechanical 2019) and SolidWorks 3D (SolidWorks 2019).
• Knowledge of STAAD Pro is a plus.
• Understanding of engineering site plans, steel mills, and plant layouts.
• Knowledge of civil/structural requirements for equipment installation at customer sites.
• Basic understanding of fluid engineering related to open channel flow and pipeline sizing.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet tight schedules.
• Good communication skills.
