Job summary

Government of Alberta is seeking a Transportation and Economic Modelling Engineer in Edmonton or Calgary. You will perform economic and transportation modelling to support highway planning and policy development, using advanced forecasting methods and big data sources while collaborating with external consultants and other agencies.

Qualifications

• Requirements: B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and eligibility for a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation from APEGA plus five years of related engineering experience in Transportation environment.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a Post Graduate Degree in Transportation Engineering and Planning.
• Equivalency: Additional related education may be considered in lieu of experience on a one-for-one basis.

Responsibilities

• Provide economic and transportation modelling services and products, including future economic impacts of infrastructure investments and travel demands on provincial highways.
• Apply strategic and operational traffic flow forecasting models and data analysis to support highway planning, policy, and program development.
• Develop sophisticated spatial economic and travel modelling methods and procedures for area-wide and micro-simulation models.
• Collaborate with external consultants and municipal jurisdictions to analyze economic, employment, and land-use data.
• Produce short/medium/long-range demographic forecasts for models in conjunction with other agencies.
• Calibrate economic forecasts using existing economic data and ensure consistent results.
