Job summary

Meridia Recruitment, on behalf of the Municipality of Colchester, seeks a Manager of Planning Services in Truro, Nova Scotia. This role provides strategic leadership for planning operations, policy development, and long-range growth planning to support vibrant, sustainable communities.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, guide zoning and development processes, and engage with residents and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Planning from an accredited university.
• Full membership, or eligibility to become a full member within three months of hire, with the Licensed Professional Planners Association of Nova Scotia.
• 5+ years of progressive planning experience, preferably within a municipal environment.
• Strong knowledge of municipal planning principles, land use planning, subdivision regulations, planning legislation, and policy development.
• Experience managing planning projects, development applications, and regulatory review processes.
• Experience preparing reports, policy recommendations, and presentations for senior leadership and elected officials.
• Strong financial acumen, including budget preparation and resource management.
• Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead long-range planning initiatives supporting sustainable growth and infrastructure planning.
• Guide planning initiatives and policy development in line with provincial legislation and council priorities.
• Oversee rezoning reviews, subdivision processes, and amendments to planning documents.
• Mentor staff, foster collaboration, and build team capacity.
• Provide strategic planning advice to senior leadership and Council.
