Job summary

The Town of Bridgewater in Nova Scotia is seeking a Director of Planning and Development Services to lead planning, sustainability, and development activities. You will align departmental goals with Council priorities and provide strategic guidance across disciplines.

Qualified candidates will have a degree in planning, CIP eligibility, 10+ years as a planner, and 5+ years in leadership, with strong GIS, policy, and project management skills. Competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in Planning or a field closely related to planning.
• Eligibility for membership in CIP.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of previous employment experience as a planner, or a combination of suitable training and experience.
• A minimum of five (5) years of previous leadership and /or management experience
• Thorough knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), with emphasis on content and procedures for adoption, amendment, and administration of Municipal Planning Strategy, Subdivision By –law, Land Use By-law and Development Agreements.
• Excellent knowledge of local government responsibility, organization and procedures.
• Program delivery and Project Management.
• Knowledge of the application of Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Permit Tracking systems and a general knowledge of GIS.

Responsibilities

• Act as planning and development leader for the Town, guiding strategy and policy.
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders; advise Town Council on planning studies and amendments.
• Prepare Municipal Planning Strategy and related by-laws and development agreements.
• Oversee interpretation/administration of planning strategies and by-laws.
• Coordinate sustainability initiatives including climate plans and community energy investments.
• Assist inter-municipal shared services in building inspection and related policies.
