Job summary

The Alberta Teachers’ Association in Edmonton invites applications for the position of Associate Executive Secretary. Under the direction of the Executive Secretary, the appointee will help provide strategic and operational leadership for the Association’s programs and affairs.

Duties include planning and coordinating Association business, overseeing initiatives and events, examining trends, representing the Association at council and committee meetings, and leading policy and bylaw development.

Qualifications

  • Must qualify for an Alberta teaching certificate and have a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or management experience in public education
  • Proven commitment to public education
  • Ability to undertake travel and evening/weekend work
  • Experience in school leadership is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate Association business
  • Oversee and direct Association initiatives, events and activities
  • Examine trends related to the profession
  • Represent the Association at Provincial Executive Council, Table Officers and other committees
  • Develop and implement policy and bylaw development
  • Coordinate Operations and oversee Teacher Qualifications Service, Central Records/Archives and Building Services
  • Negotiate on behalf of management with professional and support staff
