Job summary

Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario seeks a Senior Academic Labour Relations Advisor to join the Faculty Relations team. Reporting to the Director, Faculty Relations, the role contributes to strategic labour relations decisions, administers three collective agreements, and participates in collective bargaining, advising on academic labour relations and employment matters.

Qualifications

• University degree in labour relations, human resources management, or law (i.e. LL.B or J.D.).
• Experience at collective bargaining tables, minimally as the Second Chair.
• Proven track record in grievances, settlements, arbitrations, and building relationships with unionized and non-unionized employees.
• Knowledge of collective agreement administration and labour law.
• Experience in public sector or university environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Liaises with union representatives on grievances and committee work.
• Responds to queries from senior academic administrators and staff, providing solutions.
• Manages grievance processes, liaises with unions, negotiates settlements, and coordinates external counsel.
• Provides interpretation and guidance on collective agreements to Academic Labour Relations Advisors.
• Leads workshops and training for management and HR staff.
• Develops and leads special projects and long-term employee relations initiatives.
