Job summary

Squamish Valley Gas LP is seeking an experienced Retail Operations Manager to lead store performance across the Retail Division. You will guide staff, monitor pricing and promotions, and ensure efficient, compliant day-to-day operations in a fuel and convenience environment.

Responsibilities include budgeting support, inventory control, staff training, and safety compliance. A strong background in POS systems and customer service is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma required; post-secondary education in Business, Retail Management, or related field is an asset.
  • Experience leading retail teams and managing store operations preferred.
  • Experience with POS systems, cash reconciliation, and inventory control is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to annual goals and translate them into monthly targets and staff priorities.
  • Monitor trends in convenience, fuel, and tobacco retail sectors and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee day-to-day store operations, including opening/closing security procedures and cash control.
  • Maintain POS accuracy and ensure timely bank deposits and financial reconciliations.
  • Set and monitor pricing for fuel and merchandise based on market checks; report pricing biweekly.
  • Manage inventory and vendor relationships to support targets and reduce shrinkage.
  • Support marketing, promotions, and in-store merchandising to drive sales and engagement.
  • Hire, train, coach, and schedule staff; review performance per policy.

Job description

  • Pay or shift range: $30 CAD to $35 CAD Our typical hiring range will be +/- 5% of the midpoint shown above.Factors influencing this decision include qualifications and market conditions for the role.
Key Accountabilities
1. Business Planning & Performance
  • Contribute to annual goals, objectives, and strategic plans for SVGB and the Retail Division, and translate them into monthly targets and staff priorities.
  • Monitor trends in the convenience, fuel, and tobacco retail sectors and recommend improvements.
  • Track performance against goals; report progress to the Manager, Retail Operations in weekly meetings and via a year-end completion report.
2. Daily Operations & Financial Control
  • Oversee day-to-day store operations, including opening/closing security procedures, cash control, and shift reconciliation.
  • Ensure the POS system is kept current with products and pricing, and that daily transactions reconcile accurately.
  • Ensure timely, accurate bank deposits and daily, weekly, and monthly financial reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate sales, payroll, and reporting information to Finance on schedule.
  • Set and monitor competitive pricing for fuel and merchandise based on regular market checks; report local pricing to the Manager, Retail Operations biweekly.
  • Manage inventory levels, ordering, and vendor relationships to support sales targets, minimize shrinkage, and avoid stockouts.
  • Contribute ideas for marketing, promotions, seasonal offerings, and in-store merchandising to drive sales and customer engagement.
4. Customer Service
  • Ensure all staff deliver a consistently high standard of customer service, and personally resolve escalated customer situations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the store and fuel islands.
  • Maintain customer feedback and refund processes, and ensure staff are well-informed on products and services.
5. Safety, Facilities & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain all facility safety systems (fuel safety, fire, emergency lighting, security) in good working order, and review the Emergency Response Plan annually.
  • Ensure compliance with WHMIS, food safety, tobacco retail regulations (including age verification), and other applicable provincial and federal requirements; ensure staff are trained accordingly.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule for the facility, arranging contractor support as needed.
  • Uphold workplace health and safety policies, including regular inspections, incident reporting, and proper use of protective equipment.
  • Hire, train, coach, schedule, and manage the performance of staff, including attendance and any disciplinary matters, in accordance with the Nch'ḵay̓ Employee Manual.
  • Build a positive, team-oriented culture and support ongoing staff training (orientation, customer service, safety, POS, tobacco compliance, and related topics).
  • Adjust staffing to seasonal needs while managing labour costs, and personally cover shifts as required.
7. Team Participation & Other Duties
  • Participate actively as a member of the Retail Operations team, including meetings, mentoring junior staff, and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Retail Operations.
Qualifications
Education
  • Secondary school diploma required; post-secondary education in Business, Retail Management, or a related field is an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in retail management or a supervisory role, preferably in a fuel, convenience store, or related environment.
  • Experience managing staff scheduling, payroll records, and performance reviews.
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash reconciliation.
  • Experience with inventory management and purchasing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Solid understanding of retail operations, pricing strategy, and customer service standards.
  • Working knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, including WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of tobacco retail compliance, including age verification requirements and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and standard retail software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work respectfully within a First Nations enterprise environment.
Working Conditions & Other Requirements
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Must be available on-call 24 hours a day to respond to operational or facility emergencies. This is a condition of the position
