Job summary

Ampere Kawartha Lakes Makerspace in Lindsay is seeking a STEAM School Second to plan and deliver Ampere’s STEAM programs, assisting the STEAM School Lead Educator in Kawartha Lakes. You will be the public face of Ampere and build community, STEAM and digital skills with learners, fostering long-lasting relationships.

You will work in-person at the Lindsay Makerspace, coordinate with partners across Ontario, and may travel to community locations.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and facilitating programming for a wide range of learners.
  • Prior classroom teaching or instructional experience.
  • Experience working within a STEAM-focused educational environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with or within Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
  • Strong planning, organization, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Basic First Aid certification is an asset.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer (if over the age of 18).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate Ampere’s STEAM School with Lead Educator.
  • Collaborate with SC Youth Team STEAM Educators, Makerspace Lead, and partners to identify programming needs and develop learning resources.
  • Support Summer Camps planning and provide help during summer months.
  • Deliver high-quality, community-centred STEAM programming for Kawartha Lakes learners.
  • Foster an engaging, growth-minded program environment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Engage with community members to keep programs accessible.
  • Coordinate logistics for travel to deliver digital literacy workshops across Ontario.
  • Support evaluation, surveys, and reporting to improve delivery.
  • Stay current on STEAM education trends and integrate into Ampere programs.
  • Represent the Ampere Association professionally.
  • Other duties such as maintaining equipment, creating registration pages, recording attendance, capturing events via photos/videos.
  • Work in-person at Lindsay Makerspace and travel as needed, with possible provincial travel.
  • Opportunities to travel within the province may present themselves; sometimes work independently/remotely.

Job Summary

As a STEAM School Second, you will be responsible for planning and delivering Ampere’s STEAM programs, primarily focusing on assisting our STEAM School and STEAM School Lead Educator in the Kawartha Lakes. Being part of the delivery team is being the public face of Ampere and an ambassador of the work we do. You will build community, STEAM and digital skills with the learners, and make long‑lasting sustainable relationships.

What does success in this role look like?
  • Working collaboratively with the Southern Canada (SC) Youth Team STEAM Educators and the Makerspace Lead to identify programming needs in the City of Kawartha Lakes and occasionally beyond.
  • Developing and delivering high‑quality, community‑centred, play‑based STEAM and digital skills programming for City of Kawartha Lakes learners of all ages with a specific focus on STEAM School.
  • The Ampere Kawartha Lakes Makerspace is the spot for STEAM School, afterschool programming, field trips, camps, community events, and STEAM programming for all ages. Staff on the Makerspace team may be required to contribute to all of these program areas.
Job Responsibilities
  • Work alongside the Senior STEAM School Lead Educator to plan and facilitate Ampere’s STEAM School.
  • Work collaboratively with the SC Youth Team STEAM Educators, Makerspace Lead, and community partners across the province to identify programming needs and develop associated learning resources (eg. activity plans, slide decks, video tutorials, tutorials, podcasts, etc.)
  • Work alongside Summer Camp Lead to plan Ampere’s Summer Camps and provide support throughout summer months.
  • Deliver high‑quality, community‑centred, play‑based STEAM and digital skills programming for learners of all ages primarily in City of Kawartha Lakes and adjacent communities, and occasionally in communities across the province.
  • Foster an environment wherein learners enjoy an exceptional program experience and are challenged in a positive, growth‑minded manner.
  • Build and maintain select long‑term relationships with key community partners.
  • Engage with and respond to community members and learners to ensure our programming is community‑driven and accessible.
  • Manage the coordination and logistics needed to travel to and deliver digital literacy workshops in communities across Ontario.
  • Support evaluation and community surveys, and provide project reporting back to the evaluation team to help improve future program delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends, initiatives and best practices of STEAM education and technologies and support their integration in Ampere’s programs as appropriate.
  • Represent the Ampere Association in a respectful and sensitive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned such as maintaining teaching and tech equipment, creating registration pages on related apps as needed, recording attendance, capturing delivery events through photos and videos, etc.
  • Ability to work in‑person in our Lindsay Makerspace, in community locations across the City of Kawartha Lakes, and occasionally in other locations across the province.
  • Note: The SC Youth Team is beginning to co‑design and deliver STEAM programming with community partners across the province. Opportunities to travel within the province may present themselves in this role.
  • When needed, work independently and remotely.
