Job summary

Fivetran staff software engineer in Toronto area leads the metadata team, owning the architecture of the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services that help customers understand, trust, and act on their data. Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion.
• Expert in designing and owning subsystems in distributed cloud systems.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
• Strong architectural judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to write well-tested code and deliver sprints on time.
• Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and reliability.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or C# and cloud/container tech.
• Fluent use of AI assistants to support SDLC artifacts and coding.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across Metadata services.
• Independently design and develop new subsystems end-to-end.
• Use AI tooling to generate and review SDLC artifacts.
• Review technical designs for high quality and flag design gaps.
• Drive initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Set and uphold coding standards and architecture practices.
• Coach engineers to improve code quality and performance.
• Write specs, document components, and ensure project documentation.
• Maintain reliability and optimize critical codebase areas.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
