Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Metadata team and own the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services that power the dbt platform. You will shape the technical direction, own major subsystems, and elevate design and code quality across the team.

You'll spend time on the hardest problems, mentor engineers, and raise the bar for reliability, performance, and SDLC discipline, collaborating across teams and stakeholders in a fast-moving data platform

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion.
• Distributed, cloud-based systems design and ownership experience.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages (Python, Java, C++, C#).
• Hands-on with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and dev infra.
• Experience using AI code assistants and coding agents to improve SDLC artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services, coordinating development across multiple engineers.
• Independently design and develop the architecture of new subsystems, and own team-level subsystems end to end.
• Use AI tooling and agents across SDLC artifacts such as TDDS, PRDs, post-mortems, and test plans.
• Review and approve technical designs, ensuring high quality and identifying design deficiencies before shipping.
• Drive technical initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
