Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the DAP Repository Flows team. You will set technical direction, drive complex initiatives across teams, and elevate the engineering bar for agentic experiences on the Duo Agent Platform.

You will design autonomous and scheduled agents, refine the onboarding flow, and collaborate with teams to shape interfaces and platform capabilities, all while mentoring engineers in an async-first environment.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Ruby on Rails in production environments.
• Experience integrating large language models into products (not training models).
• Experience designing autonomous or semi-autonomous agents that act on user code.
• Track record of delivering high-scale systems and guiding technical direction across teams.
• Strong written communication and ability to work in a distributed, async-first setup.
• Demonstrated staff-level influence: setting direction, unblocking teammates, amplifying impact.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for the DAP Repository Flows team and make architecture decisions.
• Lead the design and delivery of autonomous and scheduled agents for customer codebases.
• Refine the DAP onboarding experience for rapid project configuration and productivity.
• Collaborate across DAP teams to align interfaces and platform capabilities.
• Mentor senior and intermediate engineers and review designs and code.
• Solve the hardest technical problems and promote sound design to prevent recurrence.
• Foster a culture of autonomy, ownership, and async-first collaboration.
