Job summary

Cover Genius is seeking a Staff Data Scientist for Generative AI on the Customer Ops Team in a hybrid Canada-based role. You will own design and delivery of agentic AI systems for automated decisions across customer operations and partner-facing products.

You will implement LLM-based and agentic systems from prototype to production, building evaluation strategies and shaping engineering decisions without formal authority.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating LLMs and agentic systems, including ground-truth data and rubric design.
• Strong Python engineering, with experience in agent and tool-use patterns and workflow orchestration.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction beyond own team and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of agentic AI systems, defining boundaries, tools and contracts.
• Build evaluation foundations with datasets and eval harnesses to gate changes.
• Ship production systems, including prompts, agents, tool integrations and pipelines.
• Lead engineers through design reviews and establish patterns for release.
