Job description

Canlan Sports is the largest private-sector owner and operator of recreational sports complexes in North America. Canlan is currently looking for a Staff Accountant to work for our Burnaby Central Office.


Rate of pay: $62,000 - $67,000 per year.


Job Summary

This role reports to the Controller. This person is responsible for preparation of monthly financial statements and process accounts payable with accuracy.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Preparation of monthly financial statements for multiple business units
  2. Commodity tax returns which include, but not limited to, GST, PST, HST returns
  3. Account reconciliations
  4. GL maintenance
  5. Prepare auditor working papers as necessary
  6. Correspond with facility staff and provide support to facilities
  7. Processing accounts payable (invoice entry, cheque disbursement, etc)
  8. Vendor account reconciliations
  9. Vendor and internal customer correspondence
  10. Assist with various accounting projects as needed

Education & Experience
  1. Experience with computerized accounting software required (SAGE 300 and Sage APA (automated AP system) experience will be an asset)
  2. Have full cycle accounting knowledge
  3. Preference given to a qualified accountant or one that is working towards an accounting designation.
  4. Good knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel required
  5. Must be detail oriented
  6. Must be initiative driven
  7. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  8. Must have good oral communication skills
  9. Ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential information
  10. Be able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  11. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and work well under pressure and deadlines
  12. Have at least 3 years' experience in a staff accountant or intermediate accountant position
