Vital Biosciences Inc. is seeking a proactive Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Ontario. You will support day-to-day accounting, process transactions, and prepare monthly financial reports while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes accuracy, data integrity, and timely month-end close, with GST/HST and SR&ED filing support. Onsite work at our Oakville facility is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets; experience with QuickBooks Online or similar ERP/accounting software is beneficial.
  • Experience working in the medtech, life sciences, or manufacturing industry is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Expense management: process, review, and reconcile employee expenses and corporate cards.
  • Transaction processing: assist accounts payable, invoice management, and reconciliations.
  • Data entry and record keeping: maintain accurate financial records and data integrity.
  • Accounts receivable support: prepare customer invoices and follow up on collections.
  • Fixed asset management: track the fixed asset ledger.
  • Financial reporting support: assist with monthly reports and KPI tracking.
  • Month-end close: support journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Tax filing support: assist with GST/HST, T4/T4A, and SR&ED documentation; coordinate with advisors.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: work with teams on project budgets and expenses.
  • Process improvement: identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and new tools.

About you:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and wants to make a direct impact on a growing medtech organization. You will support day-to-day accounting operations, from processing transactions to preparing reports, and collaborate across teams to ensure accurate financial data.



What you'll do:


  • Expense Management: Support the processing, reviewing, and reconciliation of employee expenses and corporate credit card transactions.

  • Transaction Processing: Assist with accounts payable (AP) processes, invoice management, and reconciliations.

  • Data Entry and Record Keeping: Maintain organized and accurate financial records, ensuring data integrity in internal accounting systems.

  • Accounts Receivable Support: Prepare customer invoices and follow up on collections.

  • Fixed Asset Management: Track and maintain the fixed asset ledger.

  • Financial Reporting Support: Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial reports, including tracking KPIs and maintaining relevant metrics.

  • Month-End Close: Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Tax Filing Support: Assist with the preparation and organization of documentation for corporate tax filings (e.g., GST/HST returns, T4/T4A slips, and other statutory filings), support SR&ED claim documentation and tracking, and help coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure timely, accurate submissions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with other teams to ensure accurate tracking of project budgets and expenses.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and support the implementation of new tools or systems as needed.

Compensation will be determined based on the individual’s demonstrated experience, education, training, relevant certifications or licensure, and other applicable business and organizational factors.
