Job summary

West Vancouver Schools is seeking a temporary Custodian at Gleneagles Elementary School for approximately 4 months with potential extension. The role runs Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, totaling 37.5 hours per week, with salary starting at $26.02 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits.

Reporting to the Head Custodian, you will perform cleaning and minor maintenance in the facility, and coordinate with the Human Resources Department for the job description and accommodations.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 graduation required and Building Service Worker certificate preferred.
• Valid BC Driver's License and Fire Safety Course are required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Head Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for the performance of a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks, in and around the assigned facility, in accordance with established procedures, as set out in the Custodians Manual.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Grade 12 Graduation
• Building Service Worker Certificate
• Valid BC Driver's License
• Fire Safety Course
• Self-starter with ability to organize daily tasks and work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
• Good interpersonal and communication (oral) skills
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties (including climbing ladders and scaffolds)

OR an equivalent combination of training and experience

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

• Certification as Building Service Worker (Division I, III, IV) by Canadian Building Servicing Association
• Previous experience in the maintenance of commercial or school buildings
• Basic Computer Skills (e-mail)
• Building Service Management Course
• Training in building trades
