Job Title: Web Architect

Location: Toronto, ON

Overview

As our Client's new business opportunities take them deeper into a B2C environment they have a need to supplement their current team with a skilled Web Architect.

The role calls for an individual who will be responsible for design of the architecture and functionality of web pages supporting end user access to critical business services offered though our Client’s Managed Services offerings.

This is a management position involving direct project / people management, supplier management, problem resolution and a technical lead role driving the initial architecture and design processes. While this role does not have direct reports, it will work to influence developers. Career progression for this role would likely lead to management of the Global web development team.

In order to effectively achieve the team objectives, this position requires technical knowledge to support : the development of pages and functionality that effectively communicate the ideas, solutions and services being promoted through the Web site.

The web architect will be responsible for meeting with stakeholders to discuss ideas for the capabilities, layout and organization of the site and other matters concerning overall graphic design that will lead to the overall solution architecture and design of web page functionality that will deliver to stakeholder expectations. Once the solution design is accepted the architect will then be responsible for development and delivery through a combination of in house developers supplemented by external development resources and support where necessary.

Critical Skills

• The successful candidate will have 7 to 10 years of recent and directly related experience in this role.
• Possess a balance between business, technical knowledge and understanding of software tools and functionality as well as graphic design skills to create successful Web pages.
• A mastery of HTML and the most current extensions
• A working knowledge of FTP and other programs that enable web functions to work is essential.
• Familiarity and practical experience with javascript, photoshop & multimedia creation in tools like flash and emerging HTML5 and some applied front to back end experience in integration in java server, XML, SQL will be a distinct advantage.
• Experience of working with clients in a (retail) e-tail / ecommerce environment is also required for this role.
• Strong verbal and visual communications skills, be able to listen closely to the stakeholder and create pages that reflect what the client is looking for; able to see the end user perspective – heavily customer focused.
• Since Web sites are constantly updated to remain current, a designer has to be flexible, pro active and able to work well under the pressure of tight deadlines and changing demands.

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
