Sr. Technical Program Manager, Amazon Learn

We're looking for someone who thrives working on tough problems and delivering for customers. Enabling 3MM+ Amazonians to grow their careers and impact our customers is your mission. The successful candidate will build upon technical skills and core program management successes.

A Sr. Technical Program Manager (TPM) will partner with engineers, other TPMs, Product Managers and senior management to help create world-class solutions. We're looking for people who are passionate about innovating on behalf of customers, demonstrate a high degree of product ownership, and want to have fun while they make history. The ideal TPM is a creative, demonstrated leader with superior analytical abilities and an expeditious drive to deliver results. This opportunity requires deep technical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Technical Program Manager on the Amazon Learn team, you will:

  1. Manage large, complex technology initiatives, delivering critical solutions, significant improvements, new mechanisms, or deprecating systems that are no longer needed. These efforts require you to work with multiple teams in and/or across organizations.
  2. Be accountable for the overall strategy of a large program. You successfully manage all stages (from concept to delivery). Your program meets challenging business goals and/or shows measurable improvements in efficiency or experience for customers, employees/engineers, or business area.
  3. Influence team technical priorities and business strategy through data-driven contributions. You are able to make a case for project priorities, resource allocation to achieve a desired business outcome, resolve an architecture deficiency, or unblock delivery.
  4. Communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs. You foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus). You partner successfully with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams.
A day in the life
  1. Hold a meeting to track status of an initiative or goal you own.
  2. Meet with a customer to understand the problems they need your team to solve.
  3. Manage escalations and be the go-to person to remove blockers and ambiguity for the team.
  4. Present a document to our stakeholders to drive a key decision on a project.
  5. Attend a team-level operations review meeting to understand system health.
  6. Review a design document produced by engineers on the team and provide feedback to ensure alignment with overall product strategy and stakeholder needs.
  7. Interview a candidate for a new role on the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience.
  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience.
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience.
  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules.
  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership.
