Sr. System Performance Analyst

Position Title: Sr. System Performance Analyst

Department: Engineering

Entity: CS e-Storage

Reports To: BESS Data Analytics Manager

Location: Kitchener, Canada

Position Summary: Sr. System Performance Analyst is part of the engineering team responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of performance data from battery storage systems. This role intersects battery energy storage systems (BESS), engineering, and data analytics.

Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze the performance of BESS, including downtime analysis, identifying under-performing areas and sub-systems, understanding system behavior, and directing improvements and updates to enhance system availability and capacity.
  2. Evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) such as BESS Storage Availability, Charge/Discharge Energy, RTE, and SoC. Prepare and present reports (dashboards and presentations) for internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Calculate major equipment unavailability and LDs. Communicate and reconcile these with suppliers and owners.
  4. Review monthly performance reports from subcontractors for accuracy and prepare client-facing performance reports.
  5. Develop tools and automation (e.g., scripts, Python code) to collect and process data, guide system operation and maintenance (O&M), and monitor BESS plant performance, including real-time flagging of underperforming assets.
  6. Perform modeling and simulations of battery degradation due to aging and cycling to establish warranty terms and predict augmentation schedules. Utilize industry-standard and customized programs and maintain and upgrade these programs to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  7. Interface with Engineering, Service, Project Execution teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Science or Engineering degree or equivalent.
  2. Familiarity with BESS, solar energy, or power systems.
  3. Proficiency in Python programming, Jupyter notebook environment, and SQL.
  4. Knowledge of AWS cloud is a plus.
  5. Strong computer skills and in-depth familiarity with big data analysis.
  6. Problem-solving ability, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills.
  7. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel).
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise reports.
  9. Strong work ethic, positive team attitude, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
