Job summary

CGIC, based in Canada, seeks a Product Specialist for its P&C Insurance Solutions team. The role centers on product expertise, underwriting rule management, and AI-driven improvements to the underwriting experience.

You will lead product research, design and development, mentor staff, and collaborate across programs and initiatives to deliver value and risk control. Hybrid work with 2 days in office is provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting, Claims or Analytics in the insurance environment.
  • Secondary diploma or degree in a related field; CIP or FCIP designation is preferred or in progress.
  • Agile certifications are an asset.

  • Provide leadership and SME on product accountabilities in development, maintenance and enhancement of policy administration systems.
  • Analyze portfolios to identify solutions, monitor issues, and communicate impact.
  • Lead requirement meetings and coordinate with stakeholders and partners.

Our P&C Underwriting and Product Solutions team provides financial security to Canadians by offering superior products and services. Recognized as the product expert, the Product Specialist provides product expertise and a depth of knowledge of products and solutions in the national, regulatory, legislative and industry environment. You provide leadership in developing and maintaining products to positively deliver value and achieve business objectives. You will maintain and create underwriting and risk selection rules across all portfolios and be responsible for product design and development. You provide product expertise to all programs, initiatives, Manufacturing projects and implementations. You will also be providing product research, solution feasibility, problem solving, risk identification and mitigation and execution of deliverables.

This role will primarily focus on advancing AI-driven initiatives that enhance and optimize the end-to-end Underwriting Experience through innovative tools, technology, analytics, and process improvements.

How You Will Create Impact
  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise to project teams implementing change that affect product accountabilities. This includes acting as a SME on product accountabilities in the development, maintenance and enhancement of our policy administration systems.
  • Support the profitability of portfolios by analyzing, identifying and quantifying potential solutions to identified problems/issues. Help identify and monitor issues and opportunities for improvement, adapting to changing priorities and assist in communicating the impact and facilitating solutions to support initiatives.
  • Have awareness and/or identify interconnectivity between projects; think critically about the impacts of that interconnectivity and share insights across teams.
  • Communicate and negotiate with project team members, business stakeholders and external partners. This includes leading, coordinating, chairing, and facilitating high level requirement meetings.
  • Utilizes a deep understanding of product and clients as well as solid internal stakeholder relationships to prioritize product needs against development.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to other staff members.
  • Identify opportunities within projects to improve delivery, maintainability, and usability.
  • Review and assess opportunities for new improvements and functionality based on customer/user feedback and business objectives.
To Join Our Team
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting, Claims or Analytics in the insurance environment.
  • You have a secondary diploma or degree in a related field. You have or are working towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation(s).
  • Having the Agile Certifications is an asset.
  • You have expert knowledge of products, policy wordings, reference and training materials, Insurance Acts and provincial legislation/requirements.
  • You are able to break down complex variables and derive solutions to address issues in an environment impacted by external forces.
  • You have strong understanding and demonstrated experience in working in an agile environment
  • You have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with team members as well as both internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
  • This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

Salary information

Expected salary is $72,847.00 to $121,411.00 CAD

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
