Job Title: Sr. Plant HR Manager

We are currently looking for an onsite Plant HR Manager who will be responsible for providing bilingual (English/French) HR support for multiple plant locations (Terrebonne and Mississauga). The position requires the need to be bilingual and fluent in English & French to communicate with all levels of employees within the division based on day-to-day business needs. The language proficiency is based on the level of the role and the business needs of the position.

Please note the Job Description is posted in English and French as this requires that the candidate be bilingual and fluent in both languages.

Job Summary

The Plant HR Manager is responsible for handling employee relations activities at designated branch plant locations as assigned. Responsibilities include understanding and applying governing HR legislation and regulations such as PIPEDA, ESA, CNESST, WSIB, and other legal requirements to protect the company against litigation and maintain non-union status where applicable. Conducts surveys on employee morale, wages/benefits, employment issues, and develops reports and recommendations for management. Works with management to communicate, train, coach, and assist employees to maintain effective morale. May assist with local hourly recruiting activities including diversity hiring, employee tracking, and interviewing. Advises and participates in counseling regarding policies, procedures, legal requirements, performance, discipline, benefits, restructuring, etc.

Activities
  1. Participates in the selection process for salaried and key leadership roles at the plants.
  2. Drives a structured interview process at the plants.
  3. Identifies trends or concerns in hourly hiring and workforce planning and takes appropriate actions.
  4. Ensures understanding of corporate policies and legal standards in hiring.
  5. Incorporates diversity and inclusion efforts into recruitment processes.
  6. Collaborates with plants to implement initiatives to improve capabilities, capacity, and succession planning.
  7. Onboards new managers and ensures their smooth integration.
  8. Designs effective compensation programs suitable for the local environment in collaboration with Corporate Compensation.
  9. Communicates pension and retirement programs effectively.
  10. Implements compensation changes consistently, following best practices.
  11. Provides training on compensation and benefits to local resources.
  12. Communicates general wage increases appropriately.
  13. Stays informed of new laws and regulations and assists in their implementation locally.
  14. Understands talent management processes and can identify performance issues.
  15. Conducts annual harassment and workplace violence training.
  16. Participates in SPS and other HR initiatives.
  17. Ensures diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training is completed at the plant.
  18. Provides support and guidance to employees on concerns, performance, and last chance agreements.
  19. Applies HR policies appropriately to employee situations.
  20. Facilitates open discussions and conflict resolution meetings.
  21. Builds positive relationships with employees and union representatives.
  22. Ensures proper administration of union contracts and manages grievances.
  23. Uses relevant systems (e.g., KRONOS, SIMON, Workday) for daily operations.
  24. Understands key business processes enabled through these systems.
  25. Establishes effective relationships with internal partners.
  26. Balances employee and business interests effectively.
  27. Demonstrates ability to multitask.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years of direct HR experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Good command of English, oral and written, for daily communication with non-French-speaking customers and suppliers.
  • 10+ years of HR experience preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • HR Certification (HRCI or SHRM) preferred.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $120,000 to $135,000.
