Job Description

Job Title: Sr Design Lead (Mech) - Industrial Automation

Location: Cambridge, ON - Onsite

Job Type: Full-Time/Contract

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing lines, focusing on simulation and project delivery.
  2. Perform engineering calculations for machine and tool designs, including strength, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
  3. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, etc.
  4. Create working and detailed drawings, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  5. Ensure designs comply with standards such as OSHA and CE.
  6. Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, and hardness. Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  7. Communicate design changes and progress to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and supervising designer.
  8. Lead the development of lean manufacturing systems to reduce waste, increase throughput, and shorten lead times.
  9. Develop and implement job/workstation designs focusing on ergonomics and operator satisfaction.
  10. Apply tooling, equipment, automation, robotics, and material handling systems to improve safety, quality, and cost.
  11. Maintain standard engineering data such as layouts, process flow diagrams, capacity charts, time studies, and productivity metrics.
  12. Collaborate with Product Development and Design Engineering to identify Design for Manufacturing opportunities.
  13. Perform other duties as needed (not an exhaustive list).
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Expert-level knowledge of manufacturing processes, cycle time calculation, ergonomics, FMEA, DFM, DFA, and throughput calculation.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting principles.
  • Experience designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Understanding of pneumatics.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Analytical skills for engineering calculations and design analysis.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing drawings and documentation.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures and quality standards.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, with relevant experience or demonstrated skills and abilities.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Additional Requirements:
  • Onsite presence in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
  • Highly motivated, responsible, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
