Key Responsibilities:
- Lead design and implementation of I&C/Automation systems across all project phases from planning to commissioning.
- Develop design packages including P&IDs, riser diagrams, network architecture, control schematics, process control narratives, equipment specifications, I/O lists, cable schedules, and BOMs.
- Ensure designs meet municipal standards (e.g., Toronto, York Region, Halton), industry codes (CSA, ISA, NFPA), and client guidelines.
- Manage tasks, deadlines, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure project success.
- Define control strategies, philosophies, and system architecture for new and retrofit systems.
- Contribute to business planning and resource management for municipal and industrial projects.
- Apply professional knowledge to diagnose issues and propose effective solutions.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, applying sound engineering judgment.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including reviews, FAT/SAT, inspections, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in proposals, cost estimates, and client presentations.
- Develop client relationships and contribute to strategic pursuits.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers.
Required Qualifications (Must Haves):
- PEO Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
- 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably in municipal water/wastewater and industrial projects.
- Proven experience with Ontario municipalities such as Toronto, York, and Halton.
- Strong knowledge of P&IDs, control systems, industrial networking, fieldbus architecture, automation systems, PLC/HMI/SCADA (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson), control panel layout, and security systems.
- Familiarity with Canadian and North American standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Assets (Nice-to-Haves):
- Experience with programming languages (IEC 61131-3), Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFIX.
- Knowledge of OT/IT network infrastructure, cybersecurity, and wireless solutions.
- Experience with HAZOP or SIS.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Project experience in transportation, social infrastructure, RNG/biogas, or food processing facilities.
