The Position

The Sr. Manager, Strategic Planning is focused on the technical aspects required to inform and optimize the Company's corporate business strategy. This role provides technical leadership and analysis to support long-term business planning, production strategy, Life-of-Mine planning, and value optimization initiatives across the Company's portfolio. The incumbent works collaboratively with Technical Services, Operations, Exploration, Finance, and external partners to ensure strategic decisions are supported by robust technical analysis.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide technical support and strategic analysis to the corporate team to inform the Company's strategic direction, business objectives, and production goals;

  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and tools to conduct technical scenario analyses and optimize business outcomes;

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure the integration of appropriate, accurate, and relevant data and information into scenario analyses;

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and consultants to enhance the robustness, reliability, and effectiveness of scenario analysis tools and methodologies;

  • Coordinate cost modelling activities across operating and future production assets and ensure alignment with scenario analysis initiatives;

  • Lead the annual scenario analysis and optimization process, providing guidance to site Technical Services teams for Life-of-Mine planning and the preparation of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves;

  • Consolidate and maintain Discovery Mining's Life-of-Mine Strategy;

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to support and inform the development of the Company's Exploration Strategy;

  • Develop and maintain technical policies, standards, and procedures to ensure leading practices within the area of responsibility;

  • Participate in technical reviews, evaluations, and due diligence activities, as required;

  • Provide technical recommendations and insights to support strategic decision-making and business planning initiatives.


Skills And Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline;

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required;

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mining, including mine planning, technical services, strategic planning, or operations;

  • Experience with Life-of-Mine planning, scenario analysis, and business optimization;

  • Experience in underground and/or open pit mining environments;

  • Experience with development, construction, and operational phases of a mine;

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills;

  • Advanced skills with software for mine planning, simulation analysis and reporting; and

  • Effective stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
