Position Description

The Senior Manager, Pension & Benefits is accountable for managing the day-to-day operational activities of the benefits and pension portfolio and providing subject matter expertise in the design, development and implementation of continuous improvement projects and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, the Senior Manager role leads a team of benefits and pension professionals.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  1. Provide strategic leadership in developing, costing, communicating, implementing and evaluating the pension (DB and DC) and benefits programs as well as various leave of absence policies, ensuring that the Hospital’s strategy and practices are internally equitable and competitive in the external marketplace.
  2. Oversee the administration of all pension and benefits programs and processes, along with all related communication materials, policies, and audits.
  3. Relationship manager for third-party service providers of pension and benefits programs, negotiating contracts, costs and service level agreements, and monitoring ongoing service delivery.
  4. Lead the governance of the pension plan including compiling statistics and preparing reports and presentations for the Management Pension Committee, Human Resources Committee, and the Investment & Pension Committee of SickKids’ Board of Trustees.
  5. Lead the annual benefits renewal and budgeting process for the Hospital’s group and statutory benefit programs, analyzing claims and utilization trends to recommend plan changes based on market comparisons and identifying employee and organizational impact of those changes.
  6. Maintain currency in professional and specialized pension and benefits knowledge, practices, principles, legislative and guideline changes and technologies to be able to evaluate the impact of introducing new programs and plan administration, recommending appropriate changes to ensure compliance with legislative changes.
  7. Subject matter expert for benefits and pensions, providing guidance to HR colleagues, employees, labour relations, and other constituents as required.
  8. Provide leadership and direction to the pension and benefits team to ensure quality and accuracy of work, including coaching, performance management, staff development and recruiting of staff.

Here's What You Need

  1. 7+ years of progressive experience with in-depth specialization in benefits, DB and DC pensions, including at least 2 years of people management experience.
  2. Undergraduate bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, accounting or human resources.
  3. Excellent knowledge of pension, benefits, and tax legislation.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to influence a variety of audiences (i.e., employees, leaders, executives, and the Board).
  5. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to translate data into actionable insights and resolve issues.
  6. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple and conflicting priorities/projects.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to service delivery and employee issue resolution.
  8. Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Assets

  1. Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting.
  2. Experience with HR systems (PeopleSoft preferred).

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time.
