Job summary

C-P Flexible Packaging is seeking a Sr. Human Resources Generalist to lead the day-to-day HR functions at our manufacturing facility in Canada.

The role covers employee relations, recruitment, payroll, attendance, benefits, compliance, performance management, training, and workforce planning. The successful candidate will advise managers and staff, ensure compliance with laws and policies, and support a positive workplace culture while facilitating organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR generalist or supervisor experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment preferred.

Job description

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist is responsible for leading and administering the day-to-day Human Resources function for a manufacturing facility. This role provides support across employee relations, recruitment, payroll administration, attendance management, benefits and pension administration, disability management, compliance reporting, performance management, training, employee engagement, and workforce planning.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and best practices while supporting organizational objectives and a positive workplace culture.

This role will be an 18-month contract with sufficient overlap to support training and onboarding.

Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and leaders, providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, attendance, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
  • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for hourly and salaried positions, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Partner with leaders to identify staffing needs and support workforce planning efforts.
  • Coordinate orientation and onboarding programs for new employees.
  • Support payroll administration through timecard review, attendance tracking, payroll audits, and issue resolution.
  • Administer employee benefits, pension programs, leaves of absence, disability claims, and related employee inquiries.
  • Maintain vacation, sick leave, and attendance records and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain HR-related reports, government filings, and regulatory documentation, including WSIB, EHT, pension, and other compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate mandatory training programs and support leadership development initiatives.
  • Stay current on legislative changes and HR best practices to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and supervisors, providing coaching and recommendations on people-related matters.
  • Support HR projects, process improvements, employee communications, and organizational initiatives.
  • Partner with payroll, finance, operations, and safety teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Complies with all general Company-wide standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and any job or department specific SOP’s.
  • SOP’s may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
    • Employee Health and Safety
    • GFSI (Safe Quality Food packaging) and GMP (good manufacturing procedures) focused on eliminating contaminates in all packaging manufactured.
    • SGP (Sustainable Green Printer) environmental regulatory procedures and SOP’s
  • Must work within productivity standards and completes work in a timely manner.
  • Special Projects & other duties as necessary
Skills And Knowledge
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a generalist or supervisor-level role.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employee groups.
  • Experience with recruitment, employee relations, payroll administration, benefits, and legislative compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptable and proactive with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills with the ability to influence and support managers in making sound people decisions.
Physical Demands
  • Primarily office-based with regular interaction and presence on the manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to navigate stairs and move throughout a manufacturing environment safely.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in production areas.
  • Occasional flexibility in work hours may be required to support operational, employee relations, or business needs.
