Position Summary

Under the direction of Leadership, the Sr Field Technician receives and carries out work assignments from management and internal customers around Victoria, BC. These assignments support field operations and complete customer orders supported to the Marine industry.

Responsibilities
  • Perform troubleshooting, new electrical installations, commissioning, and testing.
  • Troubleshoot, test, maintain, redesign, rebuild, retrofit, and repair electrical equipment, including control systems, transformers, switchgear, and breakers at customer sites.
  • Design marine electrical systems, including PLC programming, automation, drawings, and schematics.
  • Relay experience is considered an asset.
  • Able to work away from home location for multiple days/weeks.
  • Complete test reports according to company and customer standards and timelines.
  • Work to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and collaborate with other departments.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and team members about job progress and issues.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, and assist in expanding project scopes and negotiations.
  • Inspect customer sites, identify problems, and report findings to sales and project management.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to complete assignments effectively.
  • Follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Red Seal Electrician, Electrical Engineer Degree or Diploma, with minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of safety standards such as OHS, CSA, and provincial standards.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like DNV, CSA, ABS, Lloyds, Transport Canada.
  • Proven knowledge of marine vessel electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills for data entry, research, and reporting.
  • AutoCAD experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to follow instructions, and work in a team environment.
  • Customer-focused, able to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects.
  • Valid driver’s license required if operating a company vehicle.

Additional Information

Travel: 0-30%, higher for transformer services.

Location: Victoria, BC

Physical Demands: Lifting 50 lbs, crawling, climbing, standing long periods, working in non-ideal conditions.
