Fast-Track to Partnership for a Family and/or Estate Lawyer

This presents a unique opportunity for a 3+ year Family Lawyer with some Estate experience, looking for an opportunity to pick and choose cases that will deepen their experience and a quicker path to partnership.

ABOUT OUR CLIENT:

Inspired by her values, our client has a Family and Estate Law firm located mid-Vancouver Island in Parksville that serves the communities from Courtney to Nanaimo and west to Tofino.

The founder is passionate about family, and estate law and that passion has led to a thriving practice with so many referrals that she continually turns away business. She has a strong desire to better serve her community which has led to a unique opportunity for a 3+ year Family Lawyer, with some estate law experience, who’s interested in learning from the best and building toward partnership.

The firm is built on doing exceptional work and getting optimal results for its clients. They value working smarter rather than harder; results over billable hours; using appropriate forms of dispute resolution measures; and effective litigation when appropriate.

ABOUT THE JOB:

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  1. Meeting with a backlog of potential clients to determine if they would be a good fit for the firm through active listening, fact gathering and document review.
  2. Project management of a broad range of complex family law files, including separation agreements, division of assets and debts, spousal and childcare support from initial meeting through closing of each case.
  3. Building strong relationships with clients by moving them forward to the agreed-upon outcomes, keeping them informed of progress and preparing them for the next steps to ensure quality client care.
  4. Case preparation to ensure clients get the outcomes they want by strategically utilizing effective ADR and legal procedures under BC Family Law.
  5. Trial strategy preparation and litigation should an ADR process not be effective or possible.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years experience as a Family or Estate Lawyer in BC managing simple and complex family law files
  • some estate law experience would be an asset
  • A member of the B.C Bar and in good standing or willing to transfer from another Province or Territory
  • Litigation experience with a strong settlement focus and expertise in ADR
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong organization and follow-up skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Software savvy with experience working with and learning new legal software, experience with LEAP is a definite asset
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple family/estate law files effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand the client’s needs and perspective
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge assumptions and develop strategic solutions to achieve better client results
  • Caring with a strong desire to make things better for families
  • A life-long learner with an improvement-seeking orientation
  • Appreciates balance between work and play and the beauty of nature
  • Ability to work in the office when meeting with clients and remotely when appropriate

WHAT YOU GET:

Our client offers a generous compensation package with expected earnings between $120,000 and $250,000+ depending on experience. Compensation is flexible and negotiable and can be set up using a revenue split model. Extended health benefits, a generous health spending account, and moving expense assistance is also included in the Compensation Package should you be relocating for the job.
