About The Role

Grade Level (for internal use): 10

The Team

Data Services Engineering is a team in the CESS (Cloud Engineering & Shared Services) in the Market Intelligence division of S&P Global. The team provides engineering, enablement, and operational support across data technologies, focusing on operational stability, data health, performance, security, and cost-effective cloud solutions.

Responsibilities And Impact
  • Support, administer, manage, and tune multi-terabyte database systems.
  • Investigate and resolve data replication latency issues.
  • Automate tasks to improve efficiency and infrastructure quality.
  • Manage database/software releases across environments as part of SDLC.
  • Deploy and maintain database instances, including upgrades, patches, migrations.
  • Solve non-routine problems using cost/benefit analysis.
  • Troubleshoot database performance issues.
  • Coordinate with IT Server Management and other groups for issue resolution.
  • Participate in projects with Operations, Development, and QA teams.
  • Review and improve current processes and tools.
  • Contribute to support resources such as run books and monitoring tools.
  • Support database backups and refreshes in non-production environments.
  • Participate in weekly Tier-3 support on-call rotation.
  • Support cloud, virtualized, and on-premise database infrastructure.
What We’re Looking For
Basic Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of database administration, support, and performance tuning experience.
  • Extensive experience with MS SQL Server.
  • Some familiarity with AWS.
  • Proficiency in database support, administration, performance tuning, and monitoring.
  • Experience with Transactional Replication and Log Shipping.
  • Basic knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting languages.
  • Strong communication skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NoSQL, SOLR, Vertica, PostgreSQL.
  • Understanding of Database Mirroring, Availability Groups, Windows Clustering.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Ability to troubleshoot client libraries, OS, network, and storage issues.
  • Experience in start-up, Agile, or DevOps environments.
  • ITIL V3 Foundation Certification.
