Role Overview

The Senior Database Consultant will support clients across various aspects of database and application infrastructure, playing a key role in presales, delivery, and thought leadership. This role is remote, EST/GMT hours.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide comprehensive client service related to database design, implementation, and administration, ensuring maximum uptime and recoverability.
2. Manage backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, and proactive monitoring to prevent operational issues.
3. Oversee backup, clustering, replication, failover, and recovery processes; develop and review action plans and documentation.
4. Design and maintain complex data architectures, including data migration and transformation.
5. Lead problem management, incident oversight, and technical procedures for scheduled changes.
6. Review team work for quality, oversee capacity and change management, and ensure client commitments are met.
7. Participate in pre-sales activities and provide technical leadership and mentorship within the team.
8. Contribute to training and knowledge sharing initiatives.
9. Be available for 24/7 escalations as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience with PostgreSQL installation, configuration, and administration in cloud and virtualized environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Scripting skills (bash/python) and familiarity with software development languages (C++, Java, Go).
• Knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, SALT).
• Experience with monitoring PostgreSQL databases using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, etc., and cloud-native monitoring solutions.
• Proficiency with high availability solutions (Patroni, repmgr), backup tools (pgBackRest, Barman), and database migration techniques.
• Understanding of disaster recovery, replication, and performance tuning.
