Job summary

ONxpress Civils is seeking a Sr. Cost Controller to oversee cost management for major GO Expansion track and civil works. The role involves leading cost reporting, accruals, and forecasts across Risk, Finance, and Project teams, ensuring accurate billing and proactive cost control.

The ideal candidate has extensive project controls experience in construction, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP tools. Travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of project controls experience in construction.
• Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller codes.
• Engineering or related degree or equivalent experience.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure site environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Submit Applications for Payment and respond to client queries to ensure proper billing.
• Coordinate with Risk, Planners, Finance, IDD/BIM, Supply Chain and Cost Controller for accruals and forecasts.
• Analyze cost trends, variances and provide explanations for deviations.
• Develop and implement cost control procedures and workflows.
• Identify data sources and acquisition methods for cost control systems.
• Prepare and present cost reports and project dashboards (Earned Value, SPI, CPI, Variances).
• Create and maintain Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and staffing plans.
• Assist with contract administration and payments to subcontractors.

Position Title: Sr. Cost Controller

Who We Are

Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.

What You’ll Do

• Create and submit Applications for Payment to the client and reply to all the questions or comments that may arise to ensure a proper billing process.
• Coordinate with Risk, Planners, Finance, IDD/BIM, Supply Chain, and Cost Controller on projects to get accurate information related to accruals and forecast.
• Analyze cost trends, identify variances and give explanations for cost deviations.
• Develop and implement cost control procedures and workflows.
• Identify or define the data sources and data acquisition techniques necessary for the proper functioning of the cost control systems.
• Aid cost control, scheduling, supply chain, and finance & project accounting groups as required.
• Prepare and present regular cost reports for internal management including overall project Dashboard, project performance report (Earned Value, SPI, CPI, Variances)
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
• Organizing and attending project meetings
• Prepare and maintain Cost Control plans and utilization staffing plans.
• Assist with contract administration and payments to subcontractors.
• Follow up tasks with internal leads and assist with schedule and cost management
• Create and maintain Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) of the project
• Maintain project progress data and handle any issues that arise

What You Bring

• 7+ years of related project controls experience in construction projects.
• Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller account codes.
• College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
• Applied knowledge of Project Management and Cost Controls principles.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
• Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge.
• Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Hard Dollar/InEight and SAP ERP systems is an asset.
• Detail oriented.
• Must be able to travel to projects.

Expected compensation for this role is between$90,000-$130,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to multiple factors including skills, experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration. In addition to base salary ONxpress also offers a comprehensive medical and dental program, RRSP with company matching and the potential to participate in our discretionary, performance based bonus program.
