Job summary

HOOPP in Canada seeks a Senior Analyst in Securities Operations with deep knowledge of derivatives and marketable instruments to oversee trade capture, reconciliations, and settlements. You will guide junior staff and coordinate with Investment Management, fund custodians, and IT teams to maintain accuracy and integrity of HOOPP’s investment book of records.

  • University degree in Business, Finance or related discipline.
  • Completion or enrolment in a professional designation program (ie.CFA).
  • At least 7 years of experience in a financial sector, preferably in capital market.
  • Strong knowledge of capital market instruments including fixed income and equities.
  • Strong knowledge of derivative instruments such as swaps, options and futures gained through industry experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and results oriented.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is very important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve daily trade capture for all capital market instruments to ensure accuracy.
  • Build and transfer knowledge of complex derivative strategies to Analysts.
  • Review and approve derivative cash settlements and daily cash reconciliation with custodian.
  • Review and affirm electronic confirmations in DTCC and MarkitWire.
  • Escalate and delegate to junior staff to resolve issues quickly.
  • Ensure daily controls and sign-offs through checklists and documentation.
  • Assist in audits for Securities Operations.
  • Lead special projects to improve processing capabilities.
  • Perform daily/monthly reconciliations with custodian positions, follow up on discrepancies.
  • Process corporate actions for holdings in the fund.
  • Suggest process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Assist Accounting & Reporting in securities accounting and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Investment Finance and IT teams on issues and initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff and report achievements to Manager.
  • Act as back-up to Senior Manager when needed.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Securities Operations, the Senior Analyst is the subject matter expert of this team and has extensive knowledge of derivatives and marketable products traded by Investment Management as well as detailed knowledge of all processes and procedures performed by the team. They must possess a general understanding of functions outside of the department to understand the downstream impact to various teams. The Senior Analyst provides guidance and direction to junior staff members particularly with respect to new products and strategies. They are responsible for reviewing and approving the work of junior staff members to ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of trades captured in HOOPP's investment book of records, SimCorp Dimension is maintained. The Senior Analyst will have considerable co‑ordination and liaison between the Investment Management Group, Investment Finance, fund custodians, various financial counterparties, and the IT Investment Solutions team.

What you will do:
  • Responsible for the review and approval of daily trade capture for all capital market instruments including fixed income, equities, and derivatives to ensure the integrity and accuracy is maintained.
  • Build and transfer knowledge and understanding of complex derivative strategies to Analysts on the team.
  • Review and approve derivative cash settlements and complete the daily cash reconciliation between HOOPP and the custodian.
  • Review and affirm electronic confirmations in DTCC and MarkitWire.
  • First escalation point for the group to research and resolve complex issues as they arise and identify when to further elevate the issue to the Manager. This may require delegating work to junior staff in order to resolve issues quickly.
  • Provide evidence of supervision and oversight by ensuring daily controls such as checklists and documentations are signed off.
  • Assist in managing the interim and final audit efforts for Securities Operations.
  • Lead special projects assigned to continuously improve processing capabilities for the team.
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations between HOOPP and custodian positions and follow-up on discrepancies.
  • Process mandatory and voluntary corporate actions for holdings in the fund.
  • Add value to Securities Operations and Investment Management by recommending processes and controls that increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.
  • Assist the Investment Accounting & Reporting Team with the accounting for all securities; assist with ensuring discrepancies are reconciled between trade capture system/accounting system, reporting system and custodian.
  • Work collaboratively with other groups in the Investment Finance Division and IT Investment solutions team with issue resolution and new initiatives.
  • Act as resource to junior staff members for providing guidance and backing up critical daily activities and informing the Manager of any issues or achievements by Analysts.
