Job summary

HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) in Toronto seeks a Manager, Business Process to design, implement and improve accounting processes and technology supporting HOOPP’s capital market investments. Qualifications

  • University degree in Business or related discipline required.
  • CPA designation required or pursued with experience in accounting for pensions.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience in financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS as they relate to investments and derivatives.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and lead process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of IA&R processes.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Process, Investment Accounting & Reporting (IA&R), the Manager, Business Process is responsible for supporting the design, implementation and continuous improvement of accounting processes and technology solutions that enable accurate accounting and reporting of HOOPP’s capital market investments. The incumbent combines strong technical accounting knowledge with business process expertise to execute strategic initiatives, support implementation of new investment products and accounting requirements, and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency. Working closely with Investment Management, Information Technology, Risk, Legal Services and other Finance teams, the Manager acts as a subject matter expert on investment accounting processes and contributes to cross-functional initiatives that address business requirements through implementation and post-production support.

This is a hands-on-role that balances project leadership with execution. The Manager contributes actively to various workstreams and influences stakeholders in an expert-level, individual contributor role.

What You Will Do
  • Identify, assess and execute process improvement opportunities that enhance the efficiency, accuracy and scalability of IA&R processes. Collaborate with other IA&R team members and business partners to develop solutions and alignment with stakeholders impacted.
  • Document current and future-state business processes, recommend improvements, and support implementation of automation and workflow enhancements.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to identify opportunities for further optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Support the implementation of accounting and reporting requirements for new investment products, investment strategies and regulatory or accounting changes.
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Business Process in analyzing investment lifecycle events for new investment products and ensure accounting processes appropriately reflect applicable accounting standards (ASPE and relevant IFRS).
  • Collaborate with IT and other Business Solutions teams to translate business requirements into functional system solutions.
  • Coordinate and execute user acceptance testing (UAT), validate test results, and document and support issue resolution prior to production deployment.
  • Participate in investment accounting system enhancements and annual SimCorp Dimension upgrades, including impact assessments, testing, issue resolution and operational readiness activities.
  • Research accounting and operational issues, prepare recommendations and elevate complex matters to the Senior Manager, Business Process as appropriate.
  • Lead the development of business requirements, process maps, operating procedures and accounting treatment documentation for new initiatives and process changes to ensure that they are current and up to date.
  • Provide day-to-day business process guidance and support for the IA&R team.
  • Contribute on assigned project workstreams and support the Senior Manager, Business Process on activities across Finance, Investment Management, IT and external vendors. Identify and elevate project risks and issues on a timely basis.
  • Build effective working relationships with business partners and represent IA&R in cross-functional meetings and projects.
  • Support change management activities including communication, documentation, training materials and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to departmental planning by identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities for continuous improvement.
What You Bring
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Copilot)
  • Proficiency using SimCorp Dimension (SCD)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards relating to investments by a pension plan (ASPE and relevant IFRS), particularly with respect to financial instruments (including derivatives and marketable securities)
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to manage projects and collaborate in cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently and collaboratively gather, formulate and analyze information to support recommendations to senior management
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness is very important
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and to manage conflicting priorities efficiently
  • A proven team player, proactive and independent
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • University degree in Business or related discipline
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in an accounting role within the financial services sector

The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $103,000 - $153,000 CAD

The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.

This role is eligible to participate in discretionary incentive plan(s), subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan text.
