As a member of the Continuous Improvement team, this position will focus primarily on Operations Loss elimination, Operations Expense projects, CI initiatives, and process support for the Brantford facility. As a licensed trade or certified technician, under the direction of the CI Manager, this person will oversee equipment performance and lead continuous improvement projects for the site. National and international travel may be required for vendor and SCJ site visits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with the Production and Maintenance Teams to develop and execute corrective actions aimed at eliminating loss and optimizing planned maintenance stoppages at Brantford manufacturing.
- Support Operations in troubleshooting emergency, chronic, and recurring problems impacting OEE. Document issues, solutions, and findings for future reference with vendors and maintenance & engineering groups.
- Design, configure, integrate, and implement process control solutions using PLC, HMI design, and programming.
- Troubleshoot, upgrade, migrate, and install SCADA, PLC, and HMI hardware related to maintenance or new construction projects, including logic design and network configuration.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine wiring sequences, layouts, and locations.
- Apply lean tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, and FMEA in daily activities. Clearly identify value-added and non-value-added activities.
- Manage maintenance and small capital projects, including design, equipment selection, budgeting, installation, and supervising contractors, in compliance with applicable codes.
- Maintain and update markup drawings and device configuration files; ensure final prints are issued post-startup. Backup all documentation per procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering on upcoming capital projects.
- Work with Maintenance and Production teams to develop and modify Planned Maintenance Programs using SAP, Redzone, and data acquisition systems to ensure reliable, cost-effective machinery performance.
- Attend training to maintain and enhance technical skills related to trade, equipment, and processes.
- Perform all work safely, paying attention to hazards, and maintain good housekeeping in work areas.
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies :
- College diploma with relevant specialization (Trade license, Technologist, or Professional qualification).
- Proficiency in programming.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership and strategic planning abilities.
- 1-3 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the packaged goods industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience with industrial automation and controls.
- Experience in electrical engineering design, especially control panels.
- Knowledge of PLC logic and automation networks.
