Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Speech-Language Pathology Coordinator and receiving work direction from Speech-Language Pathologists as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team, the Speech-Language Rehabilitation Assistant assists designated clients with rehabilitation treatment programs designed to improve the client's communication and swallowing abilities. Assists with client treatments, administers routine procedures, documents client's progress, prepares appropriate client materials/activities, maintains augmentative communication and other related equipment, maintaining an inventory of supplies, reviewing referrals, collecting information, and working cooperatively with families, professionals, agencies and community members.
Completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program or a Rehabilitation Assistant Program that includes theory and clinical practice experiences pertaining to adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
The NRGH SLP team provides communication and dysphagia services to adults (19+) across multiple hospital settings/programs, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatients.
