Job summary

Unity Health Toronto, including Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital, seeks a float Speech-Language Pathologist to provide evaluation and management for adults with swallowing and communication disorders across hospital programs.

The role offers coverage during staff absences, opportunities to work in various units, and involvement in education, quality initiatives, and research. Prior CASLPO licensure and acute care experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent).
• Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with CASLPO for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
• Minimum of two years experience preferred in swallowing and communication assessment and management in acute care.
• Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing for medical-surgical patients of various disease presentation, and with tracheostomy tubes.
• Experience with videofluoroscopy and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in MBSImP training.

Join our St. Michael’s team in the mission to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of float Speech-Language Pathologist.

The Speech-Language Pathology Team is a dynamic service across all hospital programs. We are seeking an experienced clinician to provide assessment and management for adults with swallowing and communication disorders. This role will provide clinical coverage during staff absences, and will assist with clinical services as needed during regular weekday coverage, and can offer additional opportunity to pick up shifts during weekday or weekends. The position provides opportunities to work in a variety of program units as well as for the role development and evaluation. Many opportunities are available for patient/family, student and staff education, and to participate in quality initiatives and/or practice-based research.

Duties & Responsibilities

• The primary role of a Speech-Language Pathologist is to provide evaluation and management of swallowing and communication disorders.
• Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
• Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, and members of the academic and professional community
• Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
• Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
• Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement in the organization
• Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

• Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
• Minimum of two years experience preferred in swallowing and communication assessment and management in acute care.
• Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing for medical-surgical patients of various disease presentation, and with tracheostomy tubes.
• Experience with videofluoroscopy and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training.
