Job summary

Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to support the rehabilitation department. The role involves working within an interdisciplinary team to assess and treat communication and swallowing disorders in both children and adults, with responsibilities across inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care settings.

You will conduct video fluoroscopy studies in collaboration with Diagnostic Imaging, participate in care rounds, and provide ongoing support

Qualifications

• Master of Health Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Registered or eligible for registration with CASLPO.
• Minimum six months experience in a health care facility preferred.
• Experience with assessment and management of swallowing disorders including video fluoroscopic studies.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; self-directed and self-starter.
• Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrates problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and services within the scope of CASLPO to inpatients, outpatients, and long-term care residents.
• In collaboration with Diagnostic Imaging, conduct video fluoroscopy studies.
• Participates in interdisciplinary care rounds and communicates effectively with the team.
• Travel weekly to alternate hospital and to long-term care sites as needed.
• Provide ongoing support for patients, families and staff.
• Ensure department materials, equipment and supplies are current and functional.
• Maintain knowledge of best practice and contribute to quality improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation and Pharmacy, the Speech-Language Pathologist will work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) to support and enhance the services of the rehabilitation department and ensure the provision of safe, wholistic, patient centered care to our clients. The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the prevention, identification, assessment, treatment, education and rehabilitation of communication and/or swallowing disorders in children and adults in the provision of rehabilitation services to the clients of SLMHC.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of six months experience working directly with clients in a health care facility preferred.

Job Duties:

• Provide care and services within the scope of practice, as defined by CASLPO, to inpatients, outpatients, and residents of long-term care.
• In collaboration with Diagnostic Imaging department, conduct video fluoroscopy studies.
• Participates in interdisciplinary care rounds, demonstrate effective communication in the interdisciplinary care team.
• Travel required to alternate hospital on a weekly basis; to long-term care site on as-needed basis.
• Provides ongoing support for patients, families and staff.
• Ensures that departmental materials, equipment and supplies are current, in good working order, and meet the requirements of the patient population.
• Maintains knowledge of best practice in all relevant practice areas; committed to continuous quality improvement.
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary:

$41.76 – $52.72 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
