Job summary

Oak Valley Health in Ontario is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to assess, treat, educate and counsel adult inpatients with swallowing and communication impairments within the subacute and acute stroke population. You’ll also support related medical and rehab populations and participate in program development.

Must hold a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, be registered with COASLP Ontario, and have strong communication and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
• Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (COASLO/COASLP) required.
• Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of recent dysphagia/communication disorders experience in subacute or acute medical settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, treatment, education and counseling to adult inpatients with swallowing and communication impairments within subacute and acute stroke populations.
• Support subacute and acute medicine, and rehab adult populations.
• Contribute to ongoing program development and quality improvement activities.

What we are looking for:

As a member of our interprofessional team, you will be responsible for providing assessment, treatment, education and counseling to adult inpatients with swallowing and communication impairments within the subacute and acute stroke patient population - in addition to the support of a variety of subacute and acute medicine, and rehab adult populations within Markham Stouffville Hospital. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the ongoing program development and quality improvement activities.

What you bring to the role:

• Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology


• Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario


• Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years recent experience with dysphagia and communication disorders in a subacute and/or acute medical environment ( ALC, general medicine, neurology, and stroke rehab patient populations)


• BLS Certification is required


• Proficiency with videofluoroscopic swallow studies; MBSImP certification


• Recent experience with treatment/management of speech, language, and cognitive communication disorders


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development


• Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards


• Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Work Schedule:

Monday, alternating Wednesdays and rotating weekends
