Job description

We are currently hiring part-time Speech Language Pathologists to be part of a dedicated and specialized team that will deliver a highly integrated, one-team community palliative care model for the Mississauga community. We are offering a $3000 signing bonus to eligible candidates.

Job Description
  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, communication, and swallowing abilities.
  2. Develop and implement individualized care plans that address identified needs and align with the patient’s goals and preferences.
  3. Provide interventions to optimize swallowing function and manage dysphagia to ensure comfort and safety during oral intake.
  4. Assess the impact of symptoms such as pain, dyspnea, nausea, anxiety, and depression on swallowing and communication. Develop tailored strategies to manage these symptoms and support quality of life.
  5. Assist patients, families, and caregivers with obtaining communication aids (e.g., AAC devices, assistive listening devices, communication apps).
  6. Communicate the individual’s functional status accurately and compassionately, respecting their needs, preferences, and potential changes.
  7. Act as a mediator, educator, and advocate regarding artificial hydration and nutrition decisions.
  8. Assess caregivers’ skills and needs for training and support in safe swallowing and communication strategies.
  9. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication and swallowing management techniques.
  10. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other therapists.
  11. Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and outcomes, adhering to ethical standards.
Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  2. Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario.
  3. 3-5 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  4. Asset: Completion of LEAP, Fundamentals of Palliative Care, or CAPCE programs.
  5. Experience in community settings.
  6. Ability to work independently and within a team, with collaborative care planning skills.
  7. Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual platforms like Teams and Zoom.
