Job description

The Toronto / Ottawa studio of Perkins&Will is a multi-disciplinary practice specializing in the design of public spaces and buildings, including transit stations, recreation centres, libraries, and academic facilities. Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing, and coordinating architectural specifications and related documents, including master specifications.
  • Travel between Ottawa and Toronto offices as needed.

Qualifications

  • Professional Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technologist, Architectural Science, or related construction field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in architecture or interior design.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural & interior design, documentation, detailing, building materials and codes, construction techniques, and costs.
  • Practical knowledge of programming, site planning, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, current product development, and architectural practices.
  • Experience with contract language, liability, indemnifications, and definitions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • CSC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design aligned with firm and project goals emphasizing excellence and sustainability.
  • Prepare outline specifications, assemble project manuals, and create addenda during bidding.
  • Assist in problem-solving related to architectural design and detailing.
  • Review shop drawings and material submittals for conformance with design intent.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of construction documents and research specifications.
  • Coordinate details, dimensions, and material research.
  • Follow P+W Project Delivery manual procedures.
  • Utilize Word, Excel, and familiarity with Revit/BIM.
  • Supervise project document control and maintain quality standards.
  • Plan, organize, and execute specification development.
  • Mentor junior specification writers and coordinate work across offices.
