Job summary

Calgary Airports is seeking a security professional to join the Security team in a full-time, hybrid role. You will review program requirements, conduct risk assessments and administer access control, CCTV and alarm systems to protect airport operations, people and assets.

The role requires 4–6 years in aviation or similar regulated security, a security-related diploma, and the ability to respond to incidents, including on-call duties. Collaboration with regulators and partners is essential.

Qualifications

  • 4–6 years’ experience in aviation security or comparable regulated security environment.
  • Post-Secondary diploma in security, criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, emergency management, aviation management, public safety, risk management or related field is required.

Responsibilities

  • Review Airport Security Program requirements, incident reports, audit findings and threat information; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Complete threat, risk and vulnerability assessments; document risk ratings, mitigation recommendations and outstanding risks.
  • Administer access control, video surveillance permissions, alarm monitoring records and key control information; identify system limitations and recommend corrective action.
  • Conduct security audits, inspections, investigations and exercises; document findings and verify corrective actions address risks and compliance gaps.
  • Respond to critical security incidents and on-call matters by interpreting requirements and recommending actions protecting operations, people and assets.
  • Review capital projects, construction plans and infrastructure changes; define security requirements for access control, CCTV, alarms, barriers and integrity.
  • Assess security service delivery, contractor performance and program metrics; prepare performance summaries and improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory, law enforcement, intelligence, tenant and internal partners; communicate required actions.

Status: Full-time permanent Non-Unionized

Work environment: Hybrid (4 days in office, 1-day WFH). Employees must be available to work in the office up to five (5) days per week when required to support business priorities.

What’s The Team Like

The Security team plays a critical role in protecting the safety, security, and integrity of airport operations at Calgary Airports. This team partners with internal departments and external agencies to deliver a coordinated and proactive security program aligned with regulatory requirements. Through strong leadership and collaboration, the team ensures a safe and secure environment for passengers, partners, and crew members while supporting operational excellence across the airport.

What Are Some Of The Responsibilities
  • Review Airport Security Program requirements, incident reports, audit findings and threat information; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions that strengthen compliance and security controls.
  • Complete threat, risk and vulnerability assessments; document risk ratings, mitigation recommendations and outstanding risks requiring escalation.
  • Administer access control, video surveillance permissions, alarm monitoring records and key control information; identify system limitations and recommend corrective action or investment.
  • Conduct security audits, inspections, investigations and exercises; document findings and verify that corrective actions address identified risks and compliance gaps.
  • Respond to critical security incidents and on-call matters by interpreting requirements, assessing immediate risks and recommending actions that protect airport operations, people and assets.
  • Review capital projects, construction plans and infrastructure changes; define security requirements for access control, CCTV, alarms, barriers, locks and Primary Security Line integrity.
  • Assess security service delivery, contractor performance and program metrics; prepare performance summaries, procedures, reporting tools and recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain operational relationships with regulatory, law enforcement, intelligence, tenant, contractor and internal partners; exchange security information and communicate required actions.
What Do You Need To Bring

  • Post-Secondary diploma in security, criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, emergency management, aviation management, public safety, risk management or a related field is required. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 4–6 years’ experience in aviation security, critical infrastructure security, law enforcement, corporate security, emergency management or a comparable regulated security environment is required.
  • Experience with electronic access control systems, video management platforms, alarm monitoring, key control, database records and security infrastructure.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to security incidents, system failures, and other time-sensitive operational matters outside regular business hours.
  • Sound judgment and analytical thinking skills with the ability to assess security risks and interpret complex regulatory requirements, identify vulnerabilities, and develop practical, risk-based recommendations in time‑sensitive environments.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, investigations and regulatory documentation.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information, build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, and respond professionally in high‑pressure or time‑sensitive situations.
  • This role includes driving as part of its duties; therefore, candidates will be required to provide a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract as part of the hiring process.
What Additional Skills Are An Asset
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies, law enforcement partners, contractors, tenants or airport operational stakeholders.
  • An Accredited Airport Executive, Certified Protection Professional, Physical Security Professional, Certified Protection Officer, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design credential or a similar designation.
  • Bilingual in English and French
