Job summary

Morguard is seeking a Specialist, Environmental Affairs to support the environmental management system across its North American portfolio. The role focuses on compliance, policy implementation and collaboration with multiple business units to manage environmental risk.

Responsibilities include advising operations, leading environmental projects, and coordinating audits while developing training programs to meet regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Studies) or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Canadian and US environmental practices and regulations (Phase I/II ESAs, due diligence, asbestos).

Responsibilities

• Act as SME in environmental matters and provide oversight, guidance and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Oversee environmental projects (Phase I/II ESAs, audits) to ensure regulatory and corporate compliance.
• Coordinate environmental audits and address findings with property management and operations teams.
• Develop or update environmental training and awareness programs; monitor regulatory changes.

Where You’ll Add Value

The Specialist, Environmental Affairs is accountable to the Manager, Environmental Affairs in the support, enhancement and promotion of Morguard’s environmental management system and related policies, programs and procedures throughout the organization. This role provides environmental support and expertise for all business units within Morguard and its investor clients to ensure overall compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, programs, procedures and relevant industry best practices

How You’ll Make a Difference

Environmental Advisory

• A subject matter expert in environmental matters who provides oversight, advice and comprehensive recommendations to all stakeholders at Morguard
• Act as a reliable point of contact for operations, providing guidance on day-to-day environmental issues
• Liaises with external environmental regulatory agencies, where necessary, to support investigation and resolution of regulatory issues

Environmental Projects

• Oversees, manages and tracks (within Morguard’s internal management system) specific environmental projects (including Phase I and II ESAs, due diligence audits, surveys, etc.) to ensure regulatory and corporate compliance
• coordinates directly or supports other team members’ projects involving asbestos, mould, lead, designated substances, hazardous materials, spills, and other environmental risks
• manages environmental projects from initial scope development through to completion, ensuring deliverables, timelines, budgets and objectives are met
• supports the development, implementation and ongoing review of Morguard’s environmental policies, procedures, and programs
• identify and escalate environmental risks, project issues and potential cost or schedule impacts to the Manager
• reviews, edits and finalizes technical consultant reports

Environmental Audits

• coordinates and oversees environmental activities and required audits of properties to assess compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulations, permits and corporate requirements
• coordinates with property management and operations teams to gather information, address audit findings and implement corrective actions

Training & Environmental Awareness

• develop, create or update existing environmental training and awareness programs, based on regulatory requirements, specific needs or initiatives of the department, and related industry best practices
• monitors changes in environmental legislation and industry best practices

Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.

The Expertise You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Studies) or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Canadian and US environmental practices and theories, regulatory policies, programs, legislation, and regulations (e.g., Phase I, II, III ESAs, environmental due diligence, asbestos)
• Previous project management and/or real estate management experience.

Annualized Base Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000 CAD.
