Job summary

Peel Region in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Specialist, Employee and Labour Relations to implement expert labour relations processes, handle grievances, mediations, and arbitration within a 6-month contract. The role supports collective bargaining and complex labour matters with a hybrid work model and on-site presence.

The selected candidate will develop strategies, provide advisory services to unions and HR teams, lead investigations, and deliver strategic reporting while mentoring HR

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post secondary degree in a related field with at least 5 years of labour relations experience. an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Highly developed negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to resolve labour matters in a positive and collaborative fashion.
  • Counselling and resolution skills in labour relations techniques, best practices and the resolution of workplace issues.
  • Extensive experience with labour relations in a major, multi-union sector organization, including experience in arbitrations and mediations, Labour Board and/or related hearings.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant laws, legislation, contractual obligations, and applicable policy and practice.

Hiring Range: $94,455 - $106,262 per annum

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON

Hours of work:35 hours per week

In this role, the Specialist, Employee and Labour relations will be responsible for implementing expert and proactive labour relations processes through providing highly specialized consultation and resolution services relating to grievances, mediations, collective bargaining and complex labour relations matters.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Labour Relations subject matter expert specializing in grievances, mediation, workplace investigations, and arbitration.

  • Proven ability to build effective, strategic working relationships with colleagues, operational leaders, and union partners.
  • Demonstrated experience initiating, leading, and implementing proactive labour relations strategies and programs.
  • Strong client‑focused approach, with the ability to advise and partner effectively across the organization and with unions.
  • Highly developed mediation, conflict resolution, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with professional and administrative staff to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
