Job summary

Vale Base Metals is seeking a Specialist Auditor in Toronto, Canada, to conduct risk-based audits across global operations. The role supports the Board, Audit Committee and management by assessing internal controls, governance, and compliance with IIA standards.

You will lead engagements, prepare concise reports, and collaborate with diverse teams across geographies while traveling domestically and internationally as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of Internal Audit experience.
• Preferred certifications: CIA, CPA, CISA, CRMA, CFA, or equivalent.
• Portuguese language is an asset.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.
• Advanced degree is an asset.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Specialist Auditor

This is a permanent position with a global scope supporting Vale Base Metals operations in Canada, Brazil, and other international locations based in Toronto.

About You

The Auditor is responsible for conducting independent and objective audit examinations to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes across Vale's operations in Canada and globally. The role involves performing audits in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Standards, Vale's Internal Audit Policy, and the highest ethical and professional standards.

This position supports the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, Fiscal Council, Executive Leadership, and Management by providing assurance and insights regarding the effectiveness of operational, financial, compliance, environmental, and governance controls. The Auditor contributes to improving business performance while safeguarding Vale's assets, people, reputation, and environment.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct risk-based audits of operational, financial, compliance, and governance processes across Vale's business operations.
• Lead audit engagements, when required.
• Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance frameworks to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, and internal standards.
• Verify the integrity, reliability, and accuracy of operational and financial information used for decision-making.
• Contribute to the protection and preservation of Vale's assets, employees, and environmental resources through comprehensive audit assessments.
• Execute audit engagements in accordance with established audit programs, professional auditing standards, internal methodologies, and ethical principles.
• Prepare clear, concise, and well-supported audit reports that accurately communicate observations, risks, recommendations, and conclusions.
• Present audit findings and recommendations to management and senior leadership.
• Maintain complete and accurate audit documentation and working papers while ensuring appropriate confidentiality and information security.
• Support investigations related to allegations received through the Whistleblower and Reporting Channels, including suspected fraud, misconduct, or internal control deficiencies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization's three lines of defense to strengthen risk management and control processes.
• Support internal audit activities related to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance testing and certification requirements.
• Participate in departmental initiatives, including the development and enhancement of audit methodologies, procedures, work programs, reporting tools, analytics, and performance indicators.
• Provide advisory and consulting services when appropriate, while maintaining the independence required of the Internal Audit function.
• Stay informed of evolving audit standards, industry best practices, regulations, and emerging risks relevant to Vale's operations.

Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in Internal Audit.
• Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, CISA, CRMA, CFA, or equivalent are preferred.
• Fluent in Portuguese language is considered an asset.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Advanced education such as an MBA, Postgraduate Degree, Master's Degree is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of internal auditing standards, internal controls, enterprise risk management, corporate governance, SOX compliance, and fraud investigations.
• Experience conducting operational, financial, compliance, and risk-based audits in complex organizations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, report-writing, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, including remote operational sites, as required.
